Telecom companies to pay for call dropping.
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has ordered telecommunication companies to pay customers for call dropping from January 1, 2016 which is a big issue in India.
What is call dropping?
When call gets disconnected automatically due to weak network or some other technical issue.
How does call dropping affect consumers?
Consumers using pay per minute plan are at a loss due to call dropping. Suppose a call charged at Re 1/min drops at 1 min 3 second, the consumer has to pay for entire second minute while he has not used that time.
Why it is a big issue?
In India call dropping is a common issue and millions of unaware users are loosing their money and it has been going on quite a long time. Also call drop rate has been ever increasing.
Reasons for call dropping?
To sort out this issue TRAI has made it mandatory for all telecommunication companies to refund the customers whose calls get dropped due to network failure. These companies will also have to provide exact call drop information and amount credited back. If a telecom company will not adhere to the parameters passed by TRAI they would be subsequently fined for that.
